Sweet Start Monday: February Recap

Much of Virginia is celebrating the start of March with a wintry mix and snow today. Although it may not feel like it, we are moving closer to spring and I cannot wait! We had a small taste of it yesterday morning and early afternoon before the ran came in...low 70s and sweet, bright sunshine. We took an hour walk along the south bank of the James River after breakfast. It was just enough of a dose to get me through another week of wacky winter weather!

February wrapped up this past week, so it's time to look at how I worked to accomplish my 2013 goals during my birthday month:

RUN - Similar update as January, but with a little more progress. There may still be no running, but there is also no more boot and the level of pain I was feeling has all but disappeared. I'd forgotten what it felt to walk like a normal human being! I've continued to do easy workouts on elliptical machines (no more than 30 minutes), as well as some pool running. It's challenging to not push myself to do more. AND this type of exercise is really boring to me, but I'm incredibly thankful to be at this point in recovery. This morning, actually, I'm headed to my first physical therapy appointment. I've never done any PT before, so I'm optimistic and looking forward to learning a thing or two! (Also, I'm excited to balance out my calves some more---woah, baby!)

SAVE - I'll admit I wasn't as good as I wanted to be with budgeting and spending this month. I have plenty of excuses, including birthdays (unnecessary donut indulgences, below) and medical expenses involved with the above issue; however, I could have been and want to be better. I'm hoping to make record-keeping a weekly habit to possibly coincide with meal planning on Sunday.

IMPROVE - I just finished reading Labor Day this weekend, which hmm didn't quite meet my expectations. I've also started to read The 5 Love Languages, which I know sounds nerdy. It's a neat theory and I think it'll be helpful with all relationships, not just romantic. As far as family goes, I had a great impromptu dinner date this Saturday with my sister who is preparing to volunteer in Thailand for 2 years. Seriously, can you imagine?! I'm so proud of her and was so thankful for that time we had together, just the two of us, before she leaves NEXT WEEK! Ah!

GIVE - I finally took in my bag of wear-me-nots to a thrift store this month! Also, did I mention that I tried to donate blood on my birthday? I know it's the thought that counts, but I'm still really frustrated that I didn't get to complete the donation. I'm going to give myself a few months to recover from the trauma (how did I manage to pass out TWICE?!) and try again with a friend in tow.

BLOG - February was a rather quiet month on Pursuit of Sweetness, besides these Monday posts that I'm not sure really matter or count ;) But I'm still here, and have a little bit going on behind the scenes. Mostly, though, I have a lot of posts in-the-makings, i.e. images that I need to edit and recipes that I need to type up. I'd also really love to make every Friday breakfast-centric. We shall see, we shall see!

Your turn! Tell me about your sweetness!

  1. Yay! I'm glad the boot is gone and you got some reading done! I hope spring is on the way! It appears to have forgotten it's supposed to make an appearance.

  2. February was kind of a bust for me. I don't feel like I was very productive and definitely indulged way more than I should have. Here's hoping March is better!

    1. January is such a strict month with the beginning of the year resolutions and goals, it only makes sense that February would be the opposite! ;) I have faith in you!
