I normally don't prepare enough to publish appropriate posts for holidays, unless it's a holiday that is celebrated an entire season like Christmas. Today, Mardi Gras and National Pancake Day, is really no different. This morning, however, I have a delayed opening for work. I'm preparing to venture out onto the icy roads when all I'd rather do is stay inside, drink coffee, eat pancakes, and start a new book. As an alternative, I decided to spend some of my time listing out some of my favorite pancakes found in Richmond, Virginia.
*Quickly, I'd like to note that a few (but not all) of these reviews are a year or two old--service, quality, chefs and menus change. Something I may have rated not-so-great once, or not rated at all, may be fabulous the second time around. Either way, I recommend that you always consider giving your local restaurants some love and support!

WEEKDAYS & WEEKEND
Lunch - Breakfast served daily, 9AM-3PM. Pancakes are soft-and-fluffy, and served with fruit.
Dot's Back Inn - Breakfast served daily, 9AM-11:30AM, Saturday 9AM-3PM and Sunday 10AM-3PM. The chunky monkey pancakes are something to come hungry for on the weekends (chocolate chip walnut pancakes stuffed with fried bananas). On any day of the week, plain or blueberry pancakes are just as melt-in-your-mouth.
City Diner - Breakfast served daily, 6AM-2:30PM. Get the Strawberry & Broad platter that comes with two eggs, choice of breakfast meat, choice of breakfast side and choice of breakfast carb---PANCAKES.
McLean's - Breakfast served daily, 6AM-3PM. Voted the best breakfast in Richmond for multiple years. This restaurant serves simple food fairly well. The pancake platter that includes eggs, pancakes & breakfast meat is a very affordable $6.30.
WEEKENDS ONLY
Helen's - Brunch served Saturday and Sunday 10:30AM-2PM. Tied with Dot's Back Inn as my favorite blueberry pancakes in Richmond. These are crispy on the outside and slightly dense on the inside--my definition of perfect.
The Roosevelt - Brunch served Saturday and Sunday 10:30AM-2PM. Fancy ricotta pancakes with real maple syrup...fit for a queen, I tell you!
Continental Westhampton - Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday starting at 9:30AM. For a fun twist, have your pancake on a stick! Here they have breakfast corn dogs, i.e. are sausages dipped in pancake batter and deep fried.
If you'd rather, make pancakes at home using my Multi-Grain Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes recipe! You can substitute yogurt if you don't have any buttermilk on-hand.
