Sweet Start Monday: May Recap

Welcome to a Sweet Start Monday, where I share current highlights of my sweetness: places, people, things in my life that bring me bliss. Let's all start the week by reflecting on the positive things in our lives!

Hello, June! I was sad to see May go for a number of reasons: an anticipated wedding weekend, summery activities and then ending with a major life change. I feel happy about where I currently stand regarding my 2014 goals. I know it's a week late, but do you want to hear about it?

RUN (& recovery) - I ran about once or twice a week last month, plus going to some SEAL Team PT workouts (we average about 2 miles per workout). As a result of maybe removing my arch support insert too soon, I've been experiencing some major stiffness and pain in my inner calf when resting. So there's been a lot of foam rolling and taking extended workout breaks, i.e. taking Saturday through Monday off of fitness. Off and on, I've also felt some light throbbing in my foot so I've been forcing myself to take note and stay safe. Every time I feel like I'm making progress, something else little seems to pop up...but I'm grateful to at least be running some! Another important note: I signed up for marathon training again (but not the actually race yet). It's a reach goal, but I'm going to work my hardest and safest to get there.

SAVE (budget) - Checking in on my budget spreadsheet and bank accounts on Mondays and Fridays have just about become a habit. As a result, I'm feeling a little less stressed and more conscientious with my spending. The wedding and our move this month sucked up some money, but it was noted and I'm looking forward to saving more now since the rent is significantly less with my new roommate ;)

IMPROVE (emphasis on reading & relationships) - This month I read Dark Places by Gillian Flynn (also author of Gone Girl). This book was a fun read and did a great job of keeping me on edge. On the church front: For the last two weekends, Garland and I have been trying out a new one and have liked it a lot more than the previous. It's not quite as conservative and offers a few more (convenient) mass times. Thumbs up!

GIVE (time, money, energy) - Moving meant merging two kitchens and (unfortunately) downsizing my closet some, so even now we're still making trips to the Good Will and other local thrift stores. I participated in a Swim Boston event at the beginning of the month, which benefitted a local learn-to-swim program for less fortunate children. Accumulatively, we swam 26.2 miles (1.3 of which were mine). I admit it was a bit selfish in that it wasn't all about the cause for me. I was really curious to see what swimming a mile---or more!---was like and it was a great break from running.

BLOG (more homemade snacks, quality/quantity, reno) - I made: yeasted pancakes, chocolate chip cookie dough nutty bites and blueberry pancake granola this month. A busy month meant not quite making my 2 posts a week goal; however, I'm happy to have included some recipes! I'm curious to see how my new living arrangement will impact my baking, cooking and what I end up sharing in the upcoming months.

Your turn! Tell me about your sweetness!
