Sweet Start Monday: April Recap

Welcome to a Sweet Start Monday, where I share current highlights of my sweetness: places, people, things in my life that bring me bliss. Let's all start the week by reflecting on the positive things in our lives!

I'm proud to say that April was a bit better than May, as far as productivity is concerned. Four months of 2014 is in the books!

RUN (& recovery) - As I hinted at in last month's recap, I AM RUNNING! By the end of April, I had run up to 4.5 miles (15 mins on and 2 mins off x3). This also means that I'm making a slow return to SEAL Team PT workouts. I've been so lonely the last five months without this 1 hour recess with friends. I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders...and has since relocated to the rest of my muscles. Man, am I out of cardio shape! And don't even get me started on push-ups and abs. Now that I have the option to run, I've been spending less time doing PT on my own so I want to take care to continue doing some 1-2 morning a week in May. I've been thinking about writing a whole post on my recovery journey, since mentally it was (and continues to be) such a huge challenge. What I can't wait for now? Running 1 hour non-stop and signing up for a race!

SAVE (budget) - My budget-keeping system improved for the month of April. I consistently added to my spreadsheet and kept an eye on my accounts x2 a week. I've been doing it Mondays and Fridays since the majority of my spending during the weekends. My spending hasn't necessarily slowed down, nor does it totally reflect my monthly income, but record-keeping is an improvement! And with pending life event, soon I'll have more wiggle room ;)

IMPROVE (emphasis on reading & relationships) - At the very end of the month, I started a new book. Now that the weather has finally settled on spring, all I want to do in my free time is sit in the sun and read. On the relationships front, I was so happy to be able to spend Easter with some of my family this year. For the past two years, they've been taking spring break trips without me. How rude! I also mentioned last week...I'm slowly making a return to church and it feels good.

GIVE (time, money, energy) - Spring weather means switching out my closet with warm-weather clothes, so I once again have a bag of "wear-me-nots" to donate. Although not necessarily "volunteering", I had fun this month celebrating my first National Donate Life Month. In addition to talking about it a little on here, I also organized a Blue & Green potluck at work. Our small office is always busy getting stuff done separately, so it was nice to take the time to celebrate amongst ourselves and TOGETHER. The menu included: berry & bleu cheese spinach salad, blue corn chips & guacamole, blueberry chicken salad, pesto pasta, blackberry party meatballs, bleu cheese & bacon brussel sprouts, blue velvet cookies and blueberry pie. And there was leftovers for DAYS.

BLOG (more homemade snacks, quality/quantity, reno) - First of all: homemade "kind" bars. Make them, love them. I came close to my 2-posts-a-week goal, so I'll take that as a partial win. I'm honestly getting bored with myself though; and want to post more recipes but editing photos and writing quality posts take so much time. (Excuses, excuses...) Ok, and I need serious CSS help. Top 2 annoyances in the new template I'm trying to customize: how to center the primary navigation menu; how to eliminate the shadow and improve the quality of my header image. BLAH! HOW?! I'm learning little things in the process, like how to change fonts through coding--very cool--but there are other things that are totally over my head. Still, I'm determined to get closer by the end of next month.

Your turn! Tell me about your sweetness!
