[October Edition] Foodie Penpal Reveal

At the beginning of last month, I stumbled upon The Lean Green Bean and the Foodie Penpal program Lindsay organizes. Foodie penpal? Seriously, what an awesome idea. 1) Who doesn't LOVE getting mail? It gives me a high. 2) FOODIE penpal = a package of food. Not just food, but a whole bunch of surprise foods! Needless to say, I was signed up in 2.5 seconds flat.

The way this program works is you sign up by the 4th of every month, receive your matchings on the 5th, and then ship your package by the 15th. On the last day of the month, you brag about reveal what you received from your Foodie penpal. The person you send your box to isn't the same person you receive something from, so you are getting to meet more than one foodie (its open to both bloggers AND readers!). Also, I should note, there's a $15 limit for your package, so it really encourages you to get creative and possibly get in the kitchen to make something yourself...which is what my foodie penpal did for me!

The Lean Green Bean

My October package was from Rinnie of RinnieEats. I had a lot of fun reading through her blog, which is a combination of food and life, and was super excited to see what she would put together for me! When it finally arrived on my doorstep, I immediately ripped it open and was greeted with the comforting smell of COFFEE. Rinnie sent me two different flavors of coffee, bought from her local espresso bar: pumpkin spice (YES!) and hazelnut (YESSSSS!).

Along with the coffee, were some homemade goodies: cashew crunch and buckeye balls. Sadly, the buckeye balls melted together during their trip from Indiana, forming into one chocolate-peanut butter mosaic. Eating with a fork makes me feel more dignified anyways...and honestly, chocolate & peanut butter will not go to waste in my apartment. It tasted like melted Reese's :)

The cashew crunch is also super delicious and sweet! Two bites, and my sweet tooth is satisfied. Also, it reminded me of how much I love cashews...I should buy some soon.

As Sandy approached Virginia this weekend/week, I was trying to stock up and make sure I had enough food and supplies. These gifts are definitely went into that pile! Luckily (disappointingly?), she didn't hit Virginia had hard as we anticipated. It was very anti-climatic; no loss of electricity or damage for me in Richmond! (Who's up for a water and ramen party???)

Thanks so much, Rinnie :) My first Foodie Penpal experience ROCKED!
