Settled might be an overstatement. BUT I do finally have cable and internet after about 2 weeks of living in Richmond, a majority of the boxes have been broken down and tossed out, and all of my kitchen gadgets/supplies have found some sort of designated place. I'd say the biggest remaining move-in tasks are hanging pictures on the walls and getting a couch.
Since I said the "c" word, I do want to take a moment to share some words of wisdom: A comfy couch in the store may quickly turn into a very frustrating situation once at home. Richmond has some seriously small doors, and surprisingly not all furniture is made with this in mind. After spending about 20-30 minutes trying to fit my luscious couch through both the front door and side window, we admitted defeat. Size matters, lesson learned.
Monday marked the start of my third week at my new job and I'm happy to report that so far I like it! Its a complete 180 degree change from my old position and working environment; and this breath of fresh air has been more than welcomed. Its the simple things like being able to walk to get "street food" for lunch down at MCV that I'm relishing in. Oh city life!
These three weeks have been a whirlwind of trying to adapt and establish new routines. Now that I'm relatively unpacked and have internet, I feel like I now should be able to: 1) Begin to bake again and 2) Start trying to make friends...? Gah, I haven't had to actively try to make friends since freshman year of college. Six years ago?! Oh lord.
Baking seems less intimidating :)
One of my new routines is making dinner for Boyfriend and I about once a week. Baking and cooking for someone other than myself is SO EXCITING! Also, I'm excited by the challenge of (*secretly*) getting him to eat more veggies...
Week 1: Honey ginger chicken with a (veggie) fried brown rice
Week 2: Barbecued shrimp skewers with a cheddar (spinach) risotto
Week 3 (Tonight!): Buffalo chicken macaroni & cheese (with a ranch-seasoned carrot-y bread crumb topping)
As much as I love cooking for him, I'm looking forward to get into so REAL baking this weekend. I'll be staying put in my new home and I'm seriously looking forward to: a killer brunch on Saturday (after running the James River Loop 8-miler!), possibly getting a couch...and then baking up a storm!!!
