Food Highlights: Nassau, The Bahamas

Its been two weeks since I first step foot off the plane onto New Providence, The Bahamas.
Two weeks since setting my feet into the Bahamian sand and dipping my toes into the chilly turquoise water.
Two weeks since feeling the salty sea breeze run through my hair and warm sun kiss my shoulders.
And two weeks since biting into my first conch fritter of vacation.

Vacation with Boyfriend was wonderful...and I'm so sad that its over. Its been over. Ugh.

So just to depress myself further, let's review some highlights.

We stayed at a B&B named A Stone's Throw Away, outside of Nassau, New Providence. It was situated away from the touristy casinos and resorts, which was exactly what we were looking for. We had a lovely balcony, overlooking the island (which was supposed to be water view), where I spent every morning drinking coffee and reading and spent every evening swinging on the hammock with Boyfriend. A cold / hot breakfast was included each morning, so we were able to enjoy a big meal of practically whatever we wanted--pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit...chocolate chip cookies? Yes :)

And now, the food --

First conch fritters of the trip. From the Nirvana Beach Club at Love Beach. Yes, the beach we lounged on was named "Love". And, no, I wouldn't actually call this location a "club". It was more like a deserted outside bar...but it had character (and beer), so we were happy.

Dinners. Just down the street from our hotel was a local restaurant called Traveller's Rest, which had practically everything Bahamian you'd ever want: Kalik, plantain, peas and rice, and CONCH CONCH CONCH. We went there twice because the food and atmosphere were so good! On Saturday night, they had a live band on their covered patio. With the breeze coming off the sea, cracked conch in my stomach, and a Tom Collins in my hand, I was in heaven.

First Night at Travellers: Pork Chops, Peas and Rice, Plantain, and Corn

Second Night at Travellers: Cracked Conch, Peas and Rice, Coleslaw, and Corn

Compass Point, an incredibly colorful boutique resort, was also down the street from us. Their accommodations were huts, situated right on the water's edge. We also ate here twice, once for lunch and then for our last night in paradise (my pre-birthday dinner)...of course, we had to have conch fritters one FINAL time. Delicious crispiness!

Last conch fritters of the trip, at Compass Point

Last highlight of the trip was being able to spend my birthday morning on the beach--a first, since my birthday occurs in the bitter, cold middle of winter. Absolute perfection <3

Last night, I finally had an opportunity to do laundry from all of my travels. At the bottom on my dirty-clothes basket, I found my shorts and sundresses from the trip. The smell of sunscreen and salty air filled my lungs..."Should I wash them?" was my immediate thought, wanting to hold onto the trip a little while longer.

But, of course, I washed them.
